Description :

When you start the game you're going to get really excited over the fact that you get to finally create a character, and you'll be able to choose your class. Then when you get into the game you're bound to find out that you will be able to craft, kill, take on quests, and even switch classes. All of this sums up for a fun game experience, right? Well I hate to break it to those out there that haven't played this game but you're in for a lot of frustration right off the bat. You'll be taking on what seems like redundant quests, and you'll be left wondering "when the hell do I get to explore a new area?". You might even ask, why does it say 1 to 4 party members, and yet I can't actually seem to get anyone in my party? The answer is that this game has some very sloppy pieces to the game, one of them being the openning.

The graphics look pretty good, about on par with other games of this genre. It is nice to see that as you change your weapons and your armor you're going to see visible changes. Some of the items will look ridiculous, but that's just part of the fun. The levels look impressive, though the mini-map isn't really isn't going to be of much help as you can never quite see enough of the map to reorient yourself, especially if you take a break from the game.

The music doesn't skip a beat with keeping to the Tales theme stuff. You're going to get kind of tired of some of the tracks as you're going to be seeing a lot of some areas as you take on mountains upon mountains of quests. The town layout is an interesting choice, you'll see a menu as well as the building highlighted, so you're not going to get to explore the town. You're also going to be experiencing point to point navigation on the world map which looks alright, it won't blow you away.

The controls are utilized to their fullest. I don't think there isn't a button that will go unused. Triangle is your friend throughout the game. Square is your ally in battle, you're going to get to use it a lot as it is the guard button.

So here's the beginning of the story, you wake up at the base of a world tree. You're not alone however as some sort of cat-bird animal is there to great you. You meet up with some people, and they you're introduced to a secret society of sorts, who do tasks for the townspeople under the nose of overly-righteous leaders. The thing that will constantly bug you is that you can only have one quest at a time, even if the quests are gathering quests in the same place. You're not going to be able to take on party members unless they are explicitly listed in the quest information. You're going to also find that you might end up spending about 10+ hours in the same place before you see the light that will allow you to leave the town.

This game has such great potential but it is squandered by lack of instructions, poor map management, the one quest at a time system, and overall story flow (or lack of one in most cases). Perhaps the second one in this series corrects all that is wrong, at least that's what I'm hoping. So this game, unfortunately, gets a 5.7 out of 10.
